It's rewarding to come out of an epic fight covered in your opponent's blood and picking his spleen out of your bushy rabbit tail. A feeling of loss when an enemy cuts your head off with a sword is nothing compared to the shudder of glee when you jab an enemy in the kidney with a bamboo spear. And I really like how weapons change the dynamic of the already robust combat engine, where fisticuffs can take a good while to kill, weapons can finish you in the blink of an eye. It works particularly well because when you're fighting a dude, it feels like you're fighting someone of equal skill, unlike in Arkham when fighting another dude implies blowing a daffodil in his face to knock him out. OVERGROWTH FREE RUNNING FREEImagine a free running Arkham game but not as easy in the combat. The game is pretty damn sharpish, framerate is great if you've got the game running on a sturdy rig which really highlights the speed of which combat takes place. It's great at what it does and what it does is karate, physics and freerunning, resulting in broken necks when you get it snapped by ninja rabbits, a broken neck due to physics and a broken neck when you try to backflip off a wall. Tons of new and exciting content is regularly being hurled into the pot of Overgrowth, creating a nice warm beer that soothes your heart and gives you reassuring whispers when you flying kick a wolf square in the chops. You see Overgrowth and other good titles are in early access for one reason, to allow players to submit feedback to an experience that is otherwise unfinished. But sometimes there are some real little gems sticking out such as Overgrowth. Usually early access is a derelict graveyard where only the unwanted residue of coding and failed graphical effects linger, save only the few highly talked about releases such as The Forest. Well, early access really is a tough one to call. A whole 22 Great British Pound Sterling! And I suppose the big question you're asking, or at least I was asking myself at the time of purchase, is: is Overgrowth worth the investment? OVERGROWTH FREE RUNNING FULLSo being the Mr Moneybags I am, I bought the game full price. The sales came and went like characters from Game of Thrones and there was still no sale in sight. But alas, dear reader, I waited and waited and waited. But hey! This is Steam we're talking about here, not Microsoft- there was bound to be a sale where I could swoop in the cheap vulture I am to save a few pennies. What with the game being in early access and all, I kind of expected a little bit of a shave of the price. For anybody that doesn't live in a cave, you'll know what I mean when I say that this was suspect as hell. When I first saw Overgrowth, about three months and four hundred bottles of whiskey ago, I saw a massive price tag. So without further ado, let's look closer at Wolfire's latest attempt to hit mainstream. A neat little 3D action game made by Wolfire, an established indie group responsible for the Receiver, which a neat little bonus for people that buy Overgrowth. And it was so, that I hit the Steam store and found Overgrowth. The indie game scene is now bustling with would be game developers looking for a platform with which to sell their art to the world. OVERGROWTH FREE RUNNING MODSWell, it wouldn't be PC gaming if we didn't indulge ourselves with the occasional indie game treat, right? I mean it's bad enough that mods like DayZ are starting to clog up the market, so I'm starting to feel more disposed towards indie games, though normally I'd rather stick a burning tea bag on my eyeball.
